Hairstyling educators to head STL workshops
Hair show and awards ceremony this Sunday
Steven Lacy, superstar rap artist Nelly’s personal barber and co-founder of Gateway to Diversity, has aligned some of the nation’s top educators in the in the hair care/styling industry to head workshops and classes during his “All About Hair” weekend.
In an industry where care, styles and techniques constantly change, stylists should, but often don’t upgrade their skills, according to Lacy and Gateway to Diversity co-founder Corvonne White.
The two have collaborated to offer St. Louis stylists a one-day workshop that features the latest in professional, empowering and innovative hair design techniques, including a question and answer session.
The workshops run from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday, November 13, at the Hyatt Regency – Union Station Hotel. The workshop is only $45. To reserved a workshop spot, call (314) 482-8183.
In addition to workshops and classes, the “All About Hair” weekend includes the spectacular Gateway Hair Showcase featuring a presentation by Donnal of Donnal’s Hair Salon and St. Louis fashion forward hair styles and trends.
Other local participants include: Bonita Richardson of Beauty ‘N A Day; Marc Stevens of Daniell’s Hair Studio; Daisha of Selah Salon and Day Spa; Candice Young of B.I.M. Styling Agency; Tasha Harris-Reed of Midwest Styles Salon and Spa; Tiffany Rodgers of Shi Salon; Brandon Williams of Nine One One Hair Studio; Ken’ya of Carla’s Hair Salon; and introducing Christopher Stevens.
The hair show is from 7- 11 p.m., that evening, Sunday, November 13 at the same location. Tickets to the hair show are $20 and $25.
Lacy, who has more than 14 years of experience in the hair care industry as a barber and instructor, acknowledges the importance of continued education, exposure and networking, particularly in the St. Louis area, a region often overlooked.
White has more than 15 years of experience as a veteran hair care provider, distributor, educator and motivator. She is founder and president and C&C Enterprises which provides forums and hands-on-training for professional cosmetologists. She is also the director of education for Dudley Cosmetology University.

Workshop educators
Freddie Jones, Dallas, Texas
Jones, founder and CEO of the International Hair Symposium in Dallas, Texas, is the 2002 Bronner Brothers Hair Battle Champion and national educator for Dudley Products. Well-known for her unique style of haircutting, Jones’ work has been published in Dudley Hair images, Black Hair Sophisticates Magazine, Hype Hair Black Hair and Texas Trends.
Amos Jordan, Baltimore, Md.
Jordan, a veteran stylist, educator and speaker, boast such clients as the former 1998 Miss North Carolina, Vera Morris and Rev. Bobby Jones of BET’s “Bobby Jones Gospel Show.” His work has been published in Dudley’s Entrigue, Dudley’s Salon Currents, Hype Hair Black Hair, Black Beauty and Modern Hair.
Shiral Gaines, Oklahoma City, Ok.
Gaines is part of an elite team of entrepreneurs that consists of 10 stylists, two barbers and three assistants. Her styling and makeovers can be seen in magazines nationwide. In 2001 she was nominated for and won a Hair Grammy for her region. She is one of 50 stylists chosen and listed as Color Specialists in the May 2004 issue of Essence magazine.
Patric Antonio/Bradley, Norfolk, Va.
Antonio’s show-stopping makeovers have been featured on more than 75 billboards. When he’s styling hair he hails as Patric Bradley, paralleling his name to whatever artistic job he’s performing. His resume and achievements include winning more than 30 national and international hair and makeup competitions and innumerable awards in beauty education.
Michelene, Tampa, Fla.
Michelene studied extensively at DCU taking Clippermetrics, Makeup, High Fashion, Master Cutting and other master advanced level classes. For more than eleven years, Micheline Barber has been the Global Artist Stylist Team Leader and is recognized throughout the world for her creative and innovative concepts. She has a reputation for giving a firebrand style presentation. As a national and international educator for Dudley Products, she has traveled worldwide to Martinique, Jamaica, Brazil, and the Bahamas to train professional cosmetologists. Her creative styles have been featured in many of the industry’s hair and fashion publications worldwide.
