The highly anticipated television adaptation of beloved Broadway musical and film The Wiz will come to the small screen tomorrow night (Thursday, Dec. 3) on NBC.
“It’s so iconic. It’s so perfect. So many people were introduced to it in different ways,” director Kenny Leon told The Root.
And yet another incarnation will come to audiences in the form of live television and a star studded cast.
The Wiz Live! will be based on the 1975 Broadway production of “The Wiz” which won seven Tonys, including best musical.
The cast includes The Wiz stage production’s original Dorothy Stephanie Mills, newcomer Shanice Williams as Dorothy, Ne-Yo, Queen Latifah, Mary J. Blige David Alan Grier, Uzo Aduba and Common.
“I think we are delivering something that’s very different, very exciting, very unusual, and, I think, something that the people who are in love with The Wiz will be proud of,” Leon said.
The Wiz Live! airs Thursday, Dec. 3, at 7 p.m. CST on NBC. Check local listings for channels.
