Tupac Shakur is finally receiving his own star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame next year, according to an announcement by Committee Chairman David Green Thursday.
Shakur will be inducted alongside other artists, including Katy Perry and Rick Springfield in the music category. He will be one of two celebrities inducted posthumously, the other one being Phil Hartman.
Since his fatal, unresolved shooting death in September 1996, Shakur’s legacy has continued to shine. He has sold over $75 million worth of records, with seven of his 11 platinum records released following his death. His estate took in $3.5 million in 2010 after bringing in $9 million in 2007, eclipsing what Eminem and 50 Cent earned for that year.
The University Of California and the University of Washington offer classes focusing on Shakur’s life and literature. And there was a petition get Shakur a star that pulled in more than 30,000 signatures.
