“You look around and see all of the smiling faces,” said Darlene Gibson, “And see so many talented people – it’s something to look forward to every year.”
Gibson is talking about the black family favorite Universoul Circus, which makes a stop in St. Louis every year. For 2007 they return to the Lewis & Clark Flea Market parking lot.
She says that he circus performers cater to the humor and entertainment likes of African-Americans of all ages..
Gibson truly enjoyed the Soul Train line and the fact that the ringmaster took the opportunity to mentor to the young people by offering them messages of respect for themselves and their elders.
“I think it is something that they will come back to when they need it,” Gibson said. “I was a circus, so they were not expecting to hear that.”
Joined by her husband, stepdaughters and nephews, Gibson assures all people who may be interested that it is cool (the tent was completely air-conditioned) and it is an event that the whole family can enjoy.
“They loved it. It was a ball and a blast,” she said. “I would say that overall it is good quality family time, with whoever you take. It’s definitely worth the investment.”
The Universoul Circus continues through Sunday, July 29th at the Lewis &Clark Flea Market Parking lot at Lewis & Clark and 367. For more information, visit www.universoulcircus.com or ticketmaster.com.
