St. Louis County Executive Steve Stenger

While praising the efforts of law enforcement during the resurgence of unrest in Ferguson, St. Louis County Executive Steve Stenger announced he would be extending the state of emergency for St. Louis County that has been in effect since Monday afternoon.

His full statement reads as follows:

“After reviewing the events of the past two evenings, under the state of emergency, I am pleased to report our law enforcement officers have established order while preventing further acts of violence in Ferguson and Dellwood.

Lives and property have been protected including those wishing to express their First Amendment rights.

I commend the professionalism of our St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar, our police department, and the outstanding work done by all officers involved in protecting life, property and peace.

It is because of their ability to maintain order that I find it prudent to continue the state of emergency for at least the next 24 hours.”
