Seniors and veterans caravanned from Kansas City to St. Louis to protest former U.S. Comptroller David Walker’s bus tour calling for severe cuts on Social Security, Medicare and veterans’ benefits.

The St. Louis Rams hosted Hometown Huddle in their ContinuityX training center in Bridgeton on September 18. About 200 children from seven United Way-supported Boys and Girls Clubs attended. The clubs were: Boys & Girls Club of Alton, Boys & Girls Club of Bethalto, Boys & Girls Club of Greater St. Louis, Boys & Girls Club of St. Charles, Gene Slay’s Boys’ Club of St. Louis, Girls Incorporated, and Mathews-Dickey Boys & Girls Club. The day included Play 60 activities, a recipe station, a behind-thescenes glimpse at the locker rooms, weight room activities and more. Introduced in 1999, the NFL and United Way of America launched a national day of community service called Hometown Huddle. All 32 NFL teams work with their local United Way on a variety of hands-on volunteer projects for the local community.
