1st District Congressman Wm. Lacy Clay supported his friend Martin Mathews, cofounder of the Mathews-Dickey Boys’ & Girls’ Club at the the soft opening of the club’s new baseball fields in North County. Approximately 30 acres of land in Bellefontaine Neighbors was officially given to the club by long-time friend Bob Russell Jr. and the Surrey Lane Athletic Association.

On April 18, St. Elizabeth Academy Junior, Arecia Knight was recognized as a finalist for the 2012 City Academy/Wells Fargo Alumni Service Award. Arecia graduated from City Academy in 2007 and has been attending SEA for three years. Arecia has maintained good grades while being an active member of SEA’s orchestra, Select Singers, and Praise Dancers. She is a student ambassador and was described by St. Elizabeth Academy’s Anne Hagen as “hard working and committed to her education … an example in and out of the classroom.” She is currently participating in City Academy’s STRIVE College Prep Program and is one of only five City Academy students to attend the American Youth Leadership Summit.

New City School’s fifth and sixth grade chess teams each won first place at the Missouri State Scholastic Chess Championship in Jefferson City, where 450 students from around the state competed in the tournament. The third grade team won second place. New City School’s chess team has more than 50 students from all grades. Students learn how to play chess, be good teammates, and how to push themselves to do their best.

Herbert Hoover Boys and Girls Club students release balloons during a program Tuesday that officially changed the name to the Boys and Girls Club of Greater St. Louis. The change will align the club with their expanded footprint in the region and their plans to serve more kids in more neighborhoods in the greater St. Louis area.
