After 47 years, allergist Raymond G. Slavin, MD, (center), professor of Internal Medicine and director of Allergy and Clinical Immunology at Saint Louis University, is retiring in July from his practice. Two clients, Slavin described as his “prized patients,” Sandra Alexander of St. Louis (left) and Kenneth Naugles of Cahokia, Illinois, (right), both had severe environmental allergies that were brought under control by immunotherapy – allergy shots.

At the May 1 Black Jack City Council meeting, Don Krank, Sandy Muller, Arnold Hinkle and Ben Allen were sworn into the council, which is comprised of eight members, with two councilpersons representing each ward. They are up for election on a two year cycle. Black Jack was incorporated in 1970, and three members of the council have been with the city for over 30 years.

More than 150 people watched attorney Frankie Muse Freeman, 95, receive the 2011 St. Louis Citizen of the Year award on May 9 in a ceremony in the Emerson Performance Center at Harris-Stowe State University. The award sponsored by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and the St. Louis Citizen of the Year Committee, a group of past honorees who select the newest recipients.

Northwest Academy of Law student Deionna Ferguson and her twin sister Dewonna Ferguson (in background) participated in The YMCA Youth In Government Convention at St. Louis City Hall on Monday. More than 100 city youth convened to gain a better understanding of how the judicial branch of our government works. They also learned how bills become law in the legislative branch and what role the media plays in government. Students also simulated conducting trials, writing and debating bills, and serving as members of the media.
