Both have been successfully sued for racial discrimination by a black man who served under him. Murphy was successfully sued by two deputy sheriffs, William “Patrick” Hill and Jacques Hughes, and Slay by Deputy Fire Chief Charles Coyle.

Mary Conway, Lisa Payne, Yasmine Metts, Shayonna Gordon and Kevin McLemore, Jr. celebrated a five-generation legacy at their annual family picnic recently. The picnic, held at Tanglewood Park, has been bringing together family members for 21 years, said Mary.

The Metropolitan Chapters of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. will hold their 8th Annual Health Fair and School Supplies Giveaway at the Monsanto YMCA 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday August 2. The AKA chapters of Gamma Omega, Omicron Eta Omega and Omicron Theta Omega all come together to support this community event. This year the health fair will also include a workshop on home buying and financial literacy. Mickey and Minnie Mouse will stop by, and a bike will be given to a lucky girl or boy.
