In remembrance of Martin Luther King Jr., the Society of Black Student Social Workers at Washington University’s Brown School of Social Work will host the sixth annual “Financial Freedom Seminar: Making Your Money Work for You,” from 9 a.m.- 3:00 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, in Brown and Goldfarb halls.

The seminar, free and open to the public, is designed for St. Louis community youth and adults interested in building wealth, repairing and maintaining good credit, purchasing a home or starting and expanding a business.

Seminar participants will be able to choose a morning and afternoon workshop. Morning workshops are:

 

  • Saving and Investing for Retirement;
  • The Path to Homeownership;
  • Homeownership;
  • Credit Building;
  • Budgeting;
  • Homeownership and Foreclosure; and
  • PNC Financial Services Group’s Foundation of Money Management
  • Afternoon workshops are:
  • Starting a Small Business;
  • Because A Child’s Education is Worth the Effort;
  • PNC Financial Services Group’s Foundation of Money Management;
  • Long term Investment; and
  • Guarding Against Risk, Protection Planning

The seminar will begin with a panel discussion featuring many of the workshop presenters.
