State Rep. Maria Chappelle-Nadal hosted her first State of the District Address on Sunday, August 14 at the University City Library to inform residents about legislative actions passed in the 2005 regular session. Invited guests included City of Pagedale Mayor Mary Louise Carter and University City Councilperson Shelley Welsch, who announced her plan to challenge Joe Adams, the current University City mayor, in next April’s election.
“This is the first time University City, Wellston and Pagedale residents came together to talk about local and state concerns” said Chappelle-Nadal.
More than 150 residents attended. Chappelle Nadal was amazed by the number of people who showed up after a night of torrential rains and electrical outages.
Chappelle-Nadal delivered her speech, using a PowerPoint presentation to show “the good, the bad and the evil” legislation of the 2005 regular session. She also stated her fierce opposition to any state tax credits for private education and said she would continue to fight the backdoor phase-in voucher program.
“It is amazing the amount of money that has come into this state to support phase-in vouchers – state tax credits,” Chappelle-Nadal said.
“The Republicans are winning 50/50 districts just because of the Missouri All Children Matter PAC, where independent expenditures are used to help Republicans win.”
All Children Matter is substantially funded by the Wal-Mart heirs. The Wal-Mart Company is facing the largest discrimination class action lawsuit in the history of the United States.
