Being the mother of four boys is, of course, challenging. There is the constant wrestling, headlocks under the ole’ armpit and twisted arm behind the back, and all of that just to get them to clean their rooms.
Seriously, though, it’s not me inflicting the pain. They are doing that to each other daily, laughing all of the way.
Thankfully, I had them one at a time, with some years in between to allow me to adjust.
One of my friends had a different experience. Diane already had two preschoolers at home when she delivered children number 3 and 4.
That’s right, she had twins, twin girls to be exact.
She keeps me in stitches telling me stories about having twins and having four children, all under age four. Can you imagine?
By the way, she did not stop there. She had one more two years later and now has five!
Hats off to her and all of the mothers of multiple-birth children.
I am so amazed when I watch Jana and Jasmine, who just turned 12.
They play basketball together, and their moves look like (what else) … “identical.”
Once, I watched them in the huddle as the coach talked to the team, and they were both standing in the same position. They had their arms crossed over their chests, and they were leaning to the side by putting more pressure on their right legs, even breathing in and out at the same time.
They both had that same look on their faces, the look of “Put me in, Coach.”
Of course, Jana and Jasmine do not understand how special it is to have a twin, someone born in the same miraculous way, sharing the same womb and meeting the world at practically the same time. They can’t appreciate it yet.
When I ask them, “Don’t you just love being a twin?”
They give me the same, nose-twisted, head-cocked, not-really look.
I guess they have been asked that too often.
But I do know one of their favorite sitcoms is “Sister, Sister,” which is about identical twin girls.
Anyway, I think it is very special to have someone so close to you but yet have your own personality and goals, even though you do have the same face.
Although their mother and father have had to put in double duty to raise them and their siblings, I am sure they would have it no other way.
Here’s to twins. Aren’t they cute?
Thanks for sharing.
