I know that most of you know that I believe in goal setting throughout the year.
I particularly like writing down goals and objectives in six month increments, that way I can check up on myself throughout the year instead of at the end of the year.
I find that when I wait to the end of the year to do another evaluation, I am so far off the mark that I have given up.
Even though that is my way of dealing with goals, I still have many people asking me about New Year’s resolutions.
Since I do not make New Year’s resolutions, I thought I would appease those readers who ask and make a list called …
I don’t make New Year’s resolutions, but if I did I would probably …
1. Vow to make sure I listened more than I spoke.
2. Help my sons work to achieve goals they have set for themselves.
3. Find a way to organize paperwork and school papers in a way that is consistent.
4. Floss TWICE every day. (That will make my dentist happy; he says I’m a slacker-flosser.)
5. Say NO more often when I just can’t do something.
6. Try my best to contact my older relatives on a more regular basis. (They just love hearing from the next generation, and it only takes a minute or two.)
7. Finally, I would not just write down resolutions and put them in a drawer or somewhere never to see again.
That is the main reason why I don’t do resolutions. They seem to fade by the time we celebrate Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday, and by Valentines Day we have abandoned them altogether.
So, my advice is to make a list and check it twice, three, maybe four times throughout the year and make it a lifetime resolution.
Then, you have a better chance of making it work.
Happy New Year!
