I am so used to seeing the bell ringers at the entrance to department stores that I rarely give them any notice.

That is a shame.

Their job is to solicit funds for the needy.

What happens when we get too busy to notice the needy?

I decided in my heart to start taking more notice of the needy in my area and was surprised at what I found.

There is a lady that lives down the street from us who has cancer. She has been going through extensive chemotherapy sessions and now radiation.

I went by her home and gave her a pedicure. Then another day I went by and dropped off some flowers at her door.

I did not do this to earn brownie points; I did it because it is the right thing to do and we all need someone to show us that they care.

There was another woman I found who needed help getting her son some goodies to pass out to his class for his birthday.

I helped her stuff candy and goodies in ten bags and then delivered them for her to his teacher.

That took a few moments of my time, but I felt like I had contributed in a way that another person could really appreciate. In friendship.

Recently, a friend called right when I was in the middle of something. I would have usually gotten off the phone right away, but she needed me and this time I listened to her for almost an hour.

All she needed was a listening ear and someone to give her support in a time of need.

When I see all of the commercials about giving, I wonder how many of us are giving, not with money, but just with our time?

That is one of the easiest gifts to give, and it is free.

This Christmas season and beyond, try to find some giving that will require no money, but lots of love. I bet someone is in need just around the corner.

Thanks for sharing
