You never know.
As you readers all know, our four sons play sports and really enjoy it.
The most popular sport in our home is basketball. Each of our sons usually plays on a team during their regular school season and then on a spring/summer league.
During that spring/summer league is when son number two forged great friendships with players and their families.
That is also where my husband and I met Mr. Steve Johnson. Steve’s son played on the Eagles with my son number two and even though he only had one son playing you wouldn’t know it because he cheered for all the boys.
He could be found sitting in the center of the stands, hands crossed in front of him, with a smile on his face.
He never met a stranger, and if you wanted to talk about anything from basketball to raising children he always had a word or two.
If one of the boys did not have their best game, Steve would be one of the first to put his arm around them and tell them he believed in them and give them an encouraging word.
As a matter of fact, I never heard him say a cross word about anyone or anything. He used positive affirmations instead of negative vibes.
Well just last month Steve started feeling ill and his wife Constance heard a loud sound and went to check on him. She found him passed out and could not revive him.
Steve Johnson died of a massive heart attack, leaving behind his children, wife, grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
I can still see his face in the stands at the games, bright and cheery. His voice was strong and direct.
Why is it that we appreciate people that we see daily but we never take the time to really tell them? I never told Steve how special I thought he was. That is why I am taking the time to tell all of you now.
I appreciate all of you too, and please let someone know that you love them today.
Thanks for sharing.
