I am so very much reminded of a scripture that reads “Be still and know that I am God.”

It seems that every once in a while we are made to stop and realize just what a real “superpower” is. We are made to realize how quickly we can become helpless and so desperately dependant upon others to help us save our own lives.

It is during times like these that one really appreciates diversity and comes to understand that we really need the specialties of those individuals who opted to learn the special skills we so desperately depend on now but never would have taken time to even learn for ourselves.

Thank you, emergency service personnel and volunteers.

Isn’t it good to realize that in order to receive emergency assistance that we won’t need “special coverage”? Isn’t it comforting to know that the government will not be restricting that help which is available “based solely on income or class”?

It is even more comforting that the mindset of every man helping the other once existed and put these policies in place? Today, such humanity could be argued as “socialism.”

It’s worthy to note that even our VIP political figures as well as the candidates for presidents are having to recognize the meaning of real “power” in facing the great force of Mother Nature.

Once upon a time, in this great nation, people could seek shelter in their community churches. But not so much anymore, because we have closed many of them or converted them into condos and gift shops.

Further, we have taken the once comforting moments of prayer out of our all of our public schools and other facilities.

Well, while various states and our government argue the legality of prayer in public places, I take great, great comfort in knowing that it is impossible for any law to prohibit an individual’s prayer. They are formed within one’s heart and are but a whisper or thought away.

Only death can prevent that, and that said, I am going to whisper a prayer not only for myself, but for the thousands of people who may be in harm’s way and for those of us who too are but a heartbeat away from death or disaster.

May God be with us all.
