Did we have a winter here in St. Louis?

I do not remember even having to get the snow shovel out, because on the few occasions that it did snow, it was almost gone by the next day.

For Christmas this year, some family members gave our youngest two sons a large sled.

The boys wanted to ride it down a big hill near our home, when that first big snow fall came.

Well, it came and I told them to wait until tomorrow because I was busy with something. By “tomorrow,” the snow had all melted away. Oops!

I assured them that it was still early December and the snow would return many more times before spring.

Well, here is spring and the sled never made it out of the box.

Don’t get me wrong, I really enjoy warm weather and look forward to spring. But a nice, hardy winter kills bugs and bacteria that seem to come with spring.

Now, I find myself killing ants, spiders and creepy crawly things that I did not see last spring because we had a decent, cold, bug-killing winter.

Do I sound like I am complaining?

That is not my intention. I want to welcome spring with some spring cleaning advice to my readers; I just had to get that whole “not cold enough winter, more bugs” thing off my chest. Okay, I feel better now.

To get off to a good spring clean fling start…

Gather some trash bags and go around your home throwing away papers that you saved, but know you don’t need.

Take out a rag and dust all of your window sills. It is amazing how much dust gathers on those sills in the winter.

Find one room at a time and find inexpensive ways to perk up that room. Flowers, a new bed spread, rearrange the furniture.

Assign task to your children to help clean out closets and drawers. I tell son’s three and four I will give them a dime for each happy meal toy they throw away – they love collecting that money and I love getting rid of all those little toys.

Plan at least two spring-type dinners for everyone who helped clean up. Don’t forget the lemonade.

Lastly, plant a few flowers to make your entrance to your home feel warm and fresh. It will really pick you up when you return home from a hard day’s work. If you don’t have a garden, put a small flowery plant in your house.

There, now we can all be off to a spring fling for 2006. Now, I have some cleaning to do.

Thanks for sharing
