As the temperature begins to rise in the St. Louis area, the Urban League asks that people check on their neighbors – especially the elderly, disabled and households with small children. These persons are especially at risk for life-threatening illness or death if their home is too hot this summer.
The Urban League currently has funds available to help our citizens avoid a home energy crisis and support the health and safety of our most vulnerable residents through the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). LIHEAP is designed to provide emergency financial assistance to help pay past due cooling bills for residents in St. Louis City and Wellston. Eligibility for LIHEAP is based on income, family size and availability of resources.
New applicants should bring copies of social security cards and proof of income for all household members and their disconnect notice from their electric utility company. Applications are accepted Monday through Friday at the Urban League office located at 3701 Grandel Square. For more information, please call (314) 615-3640.
