Emerson, a diversified global manufacturing and technology company, and Express Scripts, the largest pharmacy benefit management organization in the United States, are partnering with Places for People, a leading provider of mental and physical health services in the St. Louis area, to provide free parenting education programming in North County.

A $10,000 grant provided by Express Scripts is funding an Incredible Years parenting program offered by Places for People at the YWCA – North County Center, began on February 4. A $10,000 grant provided by Emerson will fund an Incredible Years parenting program offered by Places for People at the Our Lady of Guadalupe School in Ferguson, began on March 10.

The Incredible Years program is a 12-week, evidence-based parenting program designed to assist the parents of young children who are at-risk for developing behavioral problems, or who have children who are already exhibiting signs of behavioral problems. Studies indicate that developing more effective parenting skills helps reduce delinquency, substance abuse, and violence in adolescents and children.

These courses are provided to parents at no cost and include dinner for the parents and their children, as well as free daycare to eliminate frequent barriers to parent attendance. Anyone interested in attending in either course can contact Kevin Wells, Places for People Incredible Years team leader, at 314-615-9105, Ext. 241, or kwells@placesforpeople.org for more information or to register.
