Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed non-skin cancer in the United States with one in six American men developing prostate cancer in the course of his lifetime. A PSA – or prostate specific antigen – test is a simple blood test looking at an enzyme produced in the prostate.

Director of Radiation Oncology at the Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital, Lannis Hall-Daniels, MD, MPH said, “Men should begin yearly screening with the PSA blood test and digital rectal exam at the age of 50 and men with a strong family history or of African-American descent should begin screening at age 40.”

A Rams player and Rams cheerleaders will also be on hand at the Sinclair dealerships for autographs and photos. For more information, to register for the screening or for a free cancer awareness kit, call 636-928-WELL (9355).

U. City School Improvement Plan

The School District of University City recently presented a draft of its Comprehensive School Improvement Plan (CSIP). The plan will define the district’s goals for the next five years as it relates to safe and secure schools, academic achievement and stakeholder involvement.

District parents, residents and other stakeholders may visit www.ucityschools.org to review the CSIP, as well as a copy of a presentation given by David Lineberry of the Missouri School Boards Association that explains the CSIP process. The district will also post an electronic survey on the website that will allow residents to give their opinion on the plan. Those who do not have computer access may call 314-290-4016 to obtain a copy of the CSIP materials and the survey.
