For years, the Hazelwood School District has participated in the annual fundraising campaign for the United Way of Greater St. Louis. This year, the employees of the district surpassed their efforts by collectively raising $52,034.54.
The goal was to raise $50,000 in 2010.
The totals for 2010 exceeded the 2009 amount by more than $17,000.
“It gives me a great deal of pleasure that our staff raised so much money for the United Way. It shows that we care about the community,” said Steve Price, superintendent.
This year’s campaign was different in three ways. For the first time, HSD used ePledge for online giving. It provided personalization, privacy and a convenient way to make a contribution. The campaign was extended from two weeks to three weeks to allow more time for donors to participate, and Price established an incentive called the Pacesetter Award. To earn the award, schools had to have a minimum of 60 percent participation to the campaign from HSD staff.
Nine schools earned the inaugural Pacesetter Award – Cold Water Elementary, Grannemann Elementary, Jamestown Elementary, Jana Elementary, Larimore Elementary, Lusher Elementary, Townsend Elementary, Hazelwood West Middle and the HSD Learning Center.
