Men’s Healthy Happy Hour June 14
Known throughout St. Louis for their works in the community, Mellve Shahid (brother of Anthony Shahid) and People’s Health Centers (PHC) are teaming up to fight prostate cancer. Mellve was recently diagnosed with prostate cancer. Now that he’s recovering, he is looking to use his experience as an opportunity to help make more men aware of their health and the seriousness of the disease.
Understanding what an important part early detection plays in recovery, the Shahids and PHC encourage men to see their doctors for a yearly routine exam. The magic number for a man’s Prostate-Specific-Antigen (PSA) is 2.5; anything above that means that you and your doctor should immediately start monitoring your PSA closely. Every man over the age of 40 should be seeing a urologist.
In honor of Men’s Health Month, PHC will host its second “Men’s Healthy Happy Hour Health Fair” on Thursday, June 14 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at 5701 Delmar Blvd. The event will include PSA testing, glucose and cholesterol screenings, refreshments, games and giveaways will be available. There will also be drawings for prizes. Call the People’s Health Centers at 314-367-7848.
