The St. Louis Metropolitan Children’s Agenda and Vision for Children at Risk will host the seventh forum in its series on public education Saturday, Feb. 10, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., at the Engineers’ Club of St. Louis, 4359 Lindell Blvd.

This session will focus on the report and recommendations of the Special Advisory Committee on the St. Louis Public Schools. The purpose of the session will be to provide detailed information on the report of the Special Advisory Committee and attempt to clarify questions related to the report and its recommendations.

Information from the session will be submitted to the Missouri State Board of Education and the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. Forum participants will have the opportunity to register questions and concerns in detailed written form, and that information will be forwarded to state officials.

Local pediatric cancer non-profit receives $5K grant

The Ronald McDonald House Charities of Western Washington recently awarded the St. Louis-based National Children’s Cancer Society (NCCS) with a $5,000 grant. The funds will be used for the Pediatric Oncology Program, which provides financial assistance to children with cancer and their families.

Ronald McDonald House Charities of Western Washington supports families of seriously ill children by providing a caring “home away from home.”

NCCS was established in 1987 to improve the quality of life for children with cancer through financial and in-kind assistance, advocacy, support services and educational resources. Since its inception, NCCS has assisted more than 22,000 families with almost $40,000,000.

Your ticket to support voter education

A benefit performance of The Baltimore Waltz by the award-winning actors of Stray Dog Theatre will benefit voter education, information and services throughout the Greater St. Louis Community.

The production, hosted by the League of Women Voters Information Service, will be held at 2 p.m. March 17 at The Ethical Society of St. Louis, 9001 Clayton Road.

The Baltimore Waltz, by Pulitzer Prize- and Obie Award-winning playwright Paula Vogel, is a tribute to her brother who died of AIDS in 1988 and explores the political climate of the early AIDS epidemic of the 1980’s. The League of Women Voters Information Service works to bring city and county voters accurate and nonpartisan information.
