Hazelwood Early Childhood received a $5,000 one-year grant from Springboard to bring additional programming to pre-kindergarten students.
“For several years, the Springboard organization has done a lot of work with Hazelwood School District,” said Elena Amirault, Hazelwood Early Childhood director.
During a meeting with Dina DeMasi, arts education manager for Springboard, Amirault discovered that Springboard was looking for ways to expand its available programming options to younger audiences from ages, three to five.
“I began to share with Dina the curriculum needs and which artists would be a good fit for pre-kindergarten students. From this, we developed a pilot program targeting this specific age group,” said Amirault.
Springboard’s Creative Pandemonium will perform at HSD Early Childhood Education’s family picnic on May 17. Artists will perform West African song, dance and culture for our students and families with children ages three to five.
Springboard is affiliated with the national Young Audiences Arts for Learning network. Springboard offers a variety of performances, workshops and residences to bring culture, art, music, and dance to schools.
