St. Louis Volunteer Lawyers and Accountants for the Arts (VLAA) and the Missouri Foundation for Health (MFH) will present a free educational session on the Affordable Care Act (ACA), also known as Obamacare, on Nov. 19 at 7:00 p.m. at the Regional Arts Commission, 6128 Delmar. The workshop is part of VLAA’s “Every Artist Insured” campaign.

“Too many artists are uninsured,” said VLAA Executive Director Sue Greenberg. “The good news is that every artist will be able obtain health insurance with full benefits at a reasonable cost.”

VLAA is working with partners around the region to make sure the region’s artists are aware of the new insurance options that are available under the ACA. The goal is to educate every St. Louis artist about the basic provisions of the ACA and to encourage every artist to get covered.

During the Navigating Health Care Reform workshop, Ryan Barker, vice president of Health Policy at the MHF, will present an unbiased and up-to-date presentation about the health care reform, including:

  • ACA rights, protections and requirements, including the individual mandate;
  • Information freelancers and the self-employed need to know about health reform;
  • Health insurance terminology; and
  • How to acquire quality, affordable health care coverage, including tax credits and subsidies.

The workshop is open to artists of all disciplines. Guests are welcome. Seating is limited, so participants are encouraged to register in advance: http://everyartistinsuredstl1119.eventbrite.com/
