Fifth grade students in Tammarra Lewis’ room had plenty to keep them busy this summer during Twillman Elementary School’s Academic Adventures. Her students had to plan all the facets of a five-day trip to New Orleans, picking the lowest airfare, finding the best deal on a hotel, and deciding what sights to see.

“The students in my class learned to differentiate the various bodies of water such as oceans, rivers, and lakes, while becoming familiar with each body of water’s distinct characteristics,” Lewis said. “The level of motivation from the students, while learning about the various aspects of traveling, intrigued me.”

Three other elementary schools also had Academic Adventures this summer: Jana, McCurdy and Townsend.
