More than 14K awarded to deserving and needy students
Thirteen high school seniors were awarded scholarships by Gamma Omega, Inc., the philanthropic component of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. Eleven seniors received $1,000. Two special scholars received $1,100 each and a member of Beta Delta was awarded the Felicia Stevens Alexander Scholarship of $1,000 for the highest cumulative grade point average in her chapter. The total amount awarded in scholarships was $14,200.
Marquitta Redd is the winner of the Felicia Stevens Alexander Scholarship for academic excellence. She is enrolled in Washington University.
Jamella Brown, a graduate of Vashon High School, received the Berenice O. Colbert scholarship. She plans to attend Columbia College in Chicago. Mrs. Colbert was an educator and diamond member who gave 76 years of service to Alpha Kappa Alpha.
Elayne F. Bruner is a graduate of Central Visual and Performing Arts High School. She received the Thelma Smith Sutton Scholarship in Science/Mathematics. Elayne plans to attend Xavier University. Mrs. Sutton was an educator who fostered programs in science and mathematics.
Erin K. Colvin is a graduate of Pattonville High School. She plans to attend Southern University.
Jason L. Douglas is a graduate of Parkway Central High School. He plans to enroll in Howard University.
Gabriella M. Green is a graduate of Hazelwood East High School. She plans to attend Lindenwood University.
Sheldon Lamar Harris is a graduate of Cardinal Ritter College Prep. He plans to attend Florida A & M University.
Albany C. Hayes is a graduate of McCluer High School. She plans to enroll in the University of Texas-San Antonio.
Kourtney D. House is a graduate of University City High School. She plans to attend Truman State University.
Ashley I. McClendon is a graduate of Pattonville High School. She plans to attend Lindenwood University.
Veronica N. Muo is a graduate of University City High School.. She plans to enroll in Emory University.
Rainah Janay Richard is a graduate of Beaumont High School. She plans to attend Xavier University.
Adrienne N. Schmoeker is a graduate of Pattonville High School. She plans to attend the University of Chicago.
Henry A. Wynne is a graduate of Hazelwood East High School. He plans to enroll in Morehouse College.
Gamma Omega, Inc., provides scholarships each year to deserving high school students based on need and scholastic grade point average. Students are required to write an essay, present two letters of recommendation, be accepted by a college/university, show financial need and submit to an interview.
