At 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 9, the Ethical Society of Police will host a memorial dinner at Orlando Gardens Banquet Center, 8352 Watson Road, to honor Rodney D. Washington, a St. Louis police officer who died of a stroke on May 1, 2004. He was 51.
“Rodney was the kind of guy that people instantly become attached to when they met him,” said Sgt. David Glenn, secretary of the Ethical Society.
“He was warm, always upbeat n just a great guy n and his family needs our support.”
His family is his widow, Pamela Washington, to whom he was married for 15 years, and their children, Ashley, 12, and Rodney Jr., 15.
Officer Washington, a St. Louis native, was a 29-year veteran of the force.
Guests will include Col. Joseph J. Mowka, chief of police, and Ald. Michael McMillan. Music will be provided by the Simmons Sisters, Eva Miller and Kim Cossia.
The Ethical Society of Police is an organization of more than 200 African-American police officers dedicated to civic improvement and the betterment of police relations within African-American communities.
