Saint Louis University has received a $2.1 million grant from the Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA) to fund training programs for health care professionals who treat elderly patients.
HRSA has funded SLU’s Gateway Geriatric Education Center (GEC) for 15 years, and funding would extend through June 2010 if Congress does not out HRSA Title VII grants from future budgets.
GEC has received the first year of funding, $432,000.
The GEC will also use the grant to provide specialized geriatric education to minority health care providers and to help them care for underserved patients.
