St. Louis County Library will host the announcement of the Missouri State Archives Death Certificate Database on Thursday, April 6 at 11 a.m. Secretary of State Robin Carnahan and Missouri State Archivist Ken Winn will make the announcement at library headquarters, located at 1640 S. Lindbergh Blvd.
The database will consist of more than two million individual death certificates from 1910-1955. The records will give genealogists and historians unparalleled access to Missouri’s death certificates. The database will be of particular value for those individuals conducting genealogical research. Information is searchable by name, county or month and year of death, and will be linked to a digital image of each original certificate.
The first 10 years of certificates have been scanned and linked to the database. The remaining images will be added to the state website gradually. Photocopies may be obtained of certificates for which no image is available.
The certificate contains name of the deceased, gender, race, marital status, occupation, residence, date of birth, age, birthplace, parents, birthplace of parents, name of person providing such information, date of death, place of death, cause of death, name of person submitting certificate, place of burial and date of burial.
The database is available at www.sos.mo.gov/archives/resources/deathcertificates/.
