Saint Mary’s Infirmary Nurses Alumni Association recently held its 2005
Scholarship Awards and Reunion Celebration. Saint Mary’s Infirmary School of Nursing, the first Catholic Nursing School in the country, organized exclusively for the training of young African-American women, was opened October 7, 1933, by the Franciscan Sisters of Mary (formerly, Sisters of St. Mary). The alumni association has remained viable for a number of years and will continue, as long as there are alumni members who are able to carry on new projects in community
service, to enhance the quality of life for those in need are being remembered and considered along with our scholarship assistance.
