This is the season celebrated by many cultural traditions with high hopes and festivities. It is a proper time to remind ourselves and one another of the enduring importance of love and respect for self and other.
We at the St. Louis American would like to take a moment to restate our love and respect for the community we serve. Reporting the news can be a rough business, and even a community newspaper that strives to be positive must at times report bad and upsetting news. But all of our efforts start from a belief in the power of the black community in St. Louis and a desire to remind that community of its own power and beauty by recording it every week, to the best of our ability.
We are also proud to share this good and important news with anyone else who wishes to observe, from other communities within St. Louis and our many online readers all over the country and, here and there, around the world.
As perhaps the greatest American orator, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., once said, “I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word in reality. That is why right, temporarily defeated, is stronger than evil triumphant.”
We wish all of our readers unarmed truth, unconditional love, success and health in the New Year and beyond.
