The sudden emergence of a self-appointed committee, parading under the banner “Advocates for Kids,” indicates the astonishing steps that Mayor Slay and his allies are taking to strengthen Vincent Schoemehl’s and the mayor’s hold on the St. Louis Board of Education.
The committee was first heard from in last week’s American, when it announced its endorsement of three candidates in April 5 elections. The favored trio is Flint Fowler, Joseph Keaveny and Joe Moramarco, who happen to be the same three aspirants anointed by the mayor to join Schoemehl and his allies to entrench their control of the schools.
Surely St. Louis parents and other voters will recognize the “Advocates for Kids” ploy for what it is and will not be tricked by their posturing.
I urge that all parents and citizens vote for Veronica O’Brien, William Purdy and Peter Downs on Tuesday, April 5 because they are the real advocates for our children and their parents.
