I oppose state Sen. Laudon and Rep. Cooper’s bill to name a proposed new bridge across the Mississippi River in St. Louis after the late President Ronald Reagan.
Nobel Peace Prize recipient, Anglican Archbishop Desmond Tutu told a house hearing on Capitol Hill in late 1984 that apartheid itself “is evil, is immoral, is un-Christian, without remainder. In my view the Reagan administration’s support and collaboration with it is equally immoral, evil and totally un-Christian.”
Reagan was not moved. His name is inappropriate for bridging two cities whose populations are predominately African-American and poor.
