Thank you for your article on “Waiting for the midnight hour.” I have been in church all my life (over 50 years) and have faithfully observed watch meeting services. I had no idea that the services started as Freedom Eve for the Emancipation Proclamation. The information was educational, and I appreciate now knowing the origin of such an important service.
