I have always looked upon Bill Cosby’s s comic stylings as a welcome respite from the trials of the real world. Until recently Cosby’s references to poor blacks had been limited to, let’s face it, the Fat Albert series. So, I was extremely distressed to see Cosby’s rant against the poor within the African-American community.
I liken Cosby’s belated endeavors to dinner time in my childhood. In our household, if you were late for dinner, you still would be fed. However, a late feeding entailed my father removing the stalk of bologna from the refrigerator and cutting you a thick slice. So, you got dinner, but it definitely wasn’t a great meal.
Cosby has tarnished his legacy. His foray into analyzing the lives of poor blacks proves one thing. As a leader of African-American people, Bill Cosby is a great comic.
