I’ve read comments from Veronica O’Brien, Cliff Franklin, Bill Haas, Mayor Slay and the others about the Board of Education debacle. The one cause of failed education which has been ignored is the poor family structure of the majority of the students, which prevents at-home study disciplines. Children need to be pushed to study, constantly. With that lacking, nothing the school board or teachers do will increase test scores or increase graduation numbers.
Sports will last for most until about the age of 25, while education will last forever. Ask “stars” who have looked in the mirror at age 30 and up. I know, I’ve been there, and I’m very happy I got my degree leading to a successful life, while remembering the joy of being the high school “star.”
