I am very proud to say that I attended several Historically Black Colleges. I am an alumna of Southern University in Baton Rouge. I have also attended Southern University in New Orleans and Grambling State University. These institutions give birth to the hopes, dreams and aspirations of students of various backgrounds from all over the world.
I have experienced many Bayou Classics. This event consists of Southern competing against Grambling in a paegent, Greek show, battle of the bands and a football game. All final events have been held in the New Orleans Superdome on Thanksgiving weekend. Proceeds benefit both institutions and the city of New Orleans.
I do not understand why St. Louis would host the Gateway Classic for two colleges that aren’t located here. I support the idea, but I think St. Louis would benefit more if at least one of the featured colleges was located in Missouri.
Isn’t Lincoln University a Historically Black College? Why not have Lincoln play a college out of Chicago, Kansas City or even Oklahoma? You would get MUCH more support and revenue.
Maybe I’m spoiled from experiencing the Bayou Classic, because I am NOT satisfied with the sucess of the Gateway Classic. I think St. Louis is missing out! There are thousands of Lincolnites who would support the idea. I would even help. Take a poll to find out.
