A half page in the Post-Dispatch (Sunday, January 23) was devoted to “The Incident that Made Irene Smith Famous.” Why the emphasis on that incident of 2001? She was, and is, an outstanding leader.
And why criticize her for defiance of white nastiness? If Shrewsbury were a decent gentleman, he would have called a fifteen minute recess so that she could take care of personal problems. She deserves praise, not ridicule, for that courageous defiance of Shrewsbury’s meanness.
I am tired of the self-serving shenanigans of the Slay Administration. The divisiveness that Smith protested in 2001 has gotten worse.
