Political EYE says Bishop Eddie Long of the New Birth Missionary Baptist Church says, “Jesus wasn’t poor.” His maternal grandparents, Sts. Joachim and Anna, were wealthy enough to pay 66 percent of their income in taxes to provide for the poor. He, his foster father, St. Joseph, and foster stepbrother, St. Judas-Thomas, were probably union carpenters. His foster stepbrother, St. James the righteous, just or greater, served in the Roman army and was a Roman citizen who thus paid no taxes.
Jesus was Hebrew and believed Proverbs 14:31 and 31:4-9. He preached, “Blest are you poor; the reign of God is yours.” (Lk 6:20) and “What you do to the least of my brethren you do unto me” (Mt. 25-40).
