Thanks to John C. Danforth for his commendable article refuting conservative Christians on their proposal to impose their religious beliefs on all of us by amending the Constitution to ban gay marriage or same-sex unions. We need more of our leaders to stand up and advocate the separation of church and state.
Christian conservatives apparently think that people are homosexual by choice. I do not accept this faulty premise. Consequently, sexual orientation should be left to the individual and not controlled by government authority. Those churches that oppose same-sex unions should not allow such unions in their churches. But do not force all of us to abide by religious beliefs by amending the constitution.
