Why is it that we see so many depictions of looters? More importantly, why do see predominantly African-American looters? What is the message that is being sent to the world? After all, we have come a long, long way in our history.
Is the world to believe that (like so many already believe) we are possessed of an animalistic nature? Is it the greed in us? Can it just be opportunistic enthusiasm? Do news media truly mean to say that this crazed behavior is indicative of African Americans in general?
I am perplexed, to say the least. I am dismayed, to put it mildly. I
am ashamed, to be quite candid.
Whatever it is within us that makes us revert to this behavior, I
pray for wisdom, common sense, respect and peace to return. It says in the Bible, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” I pray that the many looters put their greed aside and return to sanity. I pray that everyone down there and around the world focus their energy and attention to saving lives.
