I believe that this is not a new use of language for Michael Richards, as I believe that whites use this type of language more frequently in the privacy of their white friends. As black folk we use the N-word and other descriptive nouns and adjectives for white folks more frequently around our own race than in public.
From another perspective, I have to be angry with Richards for being so insensitive and not caring about the feelings of others before speaking. Sure, he was mad and upset, as anyone would be when put in that situation. I’m sure anyone can recall when they were angry but their better judgment advised them to restrain from releasing such statements that may harm someone.
The real question here is should we be mad at Richards or should we be checking ourselves because he just said something that we have been saying for decades? Who is really right and who is really wrong in this situation?
