I object to Jamala Rogers describing the entire military in a negative manner to our young black community. I have had young men and women of our race come to our U.S. Air Force for several different reasons – school, money and, yes, to get away from home. It can be an outstanding way of life, not just a job. I have children and will certainly tell them the pro and cons of the military. But, ultimately, your children have to make decisions on their own. You just pray and hope they make a rational choice, be it defending our country as a military member or bringing about change as a civilian. I hope Ms. Rogers understands that our country must be defended by all races if America is to survive.
