I read with great interest your article on Judge Draper. I understand why many African-American lawyers and more importantly citizens of the state do NOT want to retain Draper. My colleagues, clients and I have seen her work in person and know that she has ruled on cases not based on evidence, and at worst sometimes uses personal feelings to guide her. Her extraordinary delays have caused our children, African-American and otherwise, to suffer. Her unnecessary delays have led to divorce and child custody cases lasting months to years longer than normally allowed in the state’s court system. I am surprised that someone in the community who has so much power to right wrongs in the system lets her personal opinions get in the way of the law.
