There are thousands of Missourians who are morbidly obese and need insurance coverage for their condition. The new legislative session has started in Jefferson City, and state Senator Rita Heard Days has been brave and stepped up to help obese Missourians by filing Senate Bill 597 mandating insurance companies to cover morbid obesity. Other states have already passed this type of law.
The bill has been read twice and assigned to the Small Business, Insurance and Industrial Relations Committee. We need to write the members of that committee and request a hearing and get it to moving. Last year the same type of bill was on the representative side and died because it could not get a hearing from the committee.
You can find the committee members names and addresses online at www.senat.mo.gov or write me at P.O. Box 116, Pierce City, MO 65723 and I will send you a list of the members. As Missourians we need to unite and save lives by getting Senate Bill 597 passed.
