My nephew graduated last year from a Riverview Garden Middle School, and if the high school graduations are anything close to what the middle school’s ceremony was like, all I have to say is I do not blame the principal for the remarks that were made.
Some of the graduates were dressed as if they were getting ready to perform in a sleazy music video. I could not hear anything because of all the hoopla and shout-outs. In my opinion, they needed to call out the National Guard for crowd control.
The experience I had that night was not about race, it was about parents in denial. That principal knows exactly why it would not be acceptable to take most of these eager young men and women students to St. Charles. No one would want to take unruly students anywhere if they lack control to the point where the authorities may be called in to keep the ceremony civil.Rita EllisParent not in denial
