I am writing as a white person outraged and frustrated with the reaction of others in my community to the brutal beating of Edmon Burns. The police beat this man to a pulp, and they got caught! It’s up to all of us to do something about it – and now. This week the Board of Aldermen is voting on BB69 which establishes a Civilian Oversight Board to hear cases of police brutality. If the beating last week is any indication, we should make sure BB69 is voted into law. This will at least make the police think twice, if they have to answer to an outside group. In the St. Louis area, all the victims of police chases that have been beaten have been black, and the white power structure of the police department remains unchecked. I stand on the side of justice for all victims of police brutality.
