For far too long, mean-spirited, right-wing radicals like David Lenihan have dominated the airwaves of our nation. They are often anti-gay, anti-black and anti-women. We shouldn’t forgive racism, we should fight it. And we certainly shouldn’t invite right-wing radicals into our expansive NAACP tent, unless they have proven that they have denounced the evil of racism.
Harold Crumpton’s recent media blunder damaged and humiliated the NAACP beyond repair. Thirty pieces of silver (from purchases of memberships by Lenihan and his wife) can not replace the hurtful word “coon” or the need for sensitivity training.
There have been too many other missteps by this Crumpton administration. When approached with sincere concerns about these missteps, this administration often greets some of us with arrogance and a personal threat to quit the association. Crumpton needs to act on that threat, immediately.
