Plautus, Roman writer of comic dramas, left behind some wise advice: “It’s better to profit by a horrible example than to be one.” Such advice comes none too soon for the staff at Cleveland Naval Jr. ROTC following an unannounced visit by Superintendent Creg Williams.
It was an exam day. The buses were lined up in front of the school when the superintendent entered, ranting and raving as to why the buses were there. Instead of inquiring in a civil manner as to why the buses were there and who made up the schedule, he chose to howl, scream and make a scene.
The reply was that the schedule came from the central office. And this is called leadership? At the very least, the incident showed complete contempt for school staff trying to do its job under less than either ideal conditions. So much for staff morale, right before the holidays.
